Chapter 12

Tiziana had accompanied her to Milan's International Airport in Malpensa, and as if they had agreed beforehand, the two women bade farewell soberly, putting off the cries and moans of separation for the time each was one alone. In fact, Lena's total stay in Italy including the weeks spent in Venice and Milan had been two months, a period in which ties of friendship, work and ... love had been born.

Already alone in the departure area of the airport Lena extracted her cell phone and began sending messages to people to whom she was interested in communicating her return to New York, including her parents, her boss Ira Gorkin and some friends. She kept the device and then extracted it again determined to send another message that she had decided not to include in the first batch, but on a second thought change her decision .

Already seated in the airplane and after the moment of takeoff and stabilization in its route the woman began to perform one of the routines that she carried out after each one of her prolonged trips. It was about closing her eyes and evaluate what had happened on the trip, including work and personal issues. Lena began with the first category to reserve the intimate and most important aspect for the end. The trip to both cities had been a success from every point of view and the firm had obtained suitable licensees in both cities as well as convenient places to rent. The woman had no doubt that Ira would swell the year-end bonus he had already promised after her trip to South America. From the tourist point of view she had known, lead by Tiziana, the city of Venice far beyond the overloaded tourist circuits. No doubt partly by the company of the Venetian Lena had enjoyed to the maximum the romantic aspect of the city to which she had already mentally assigned the role of her second "place in the world" after New York. Milan had pleased her as an orderly and active city and she had been particularly impacted by the fashion district to which she was linked by her job.

But it was certainly the analysis and tasting of personal and emotional aspects what interested Lena most, so she slowly sipped the glass of white wine that the stewardess had served her and again with her eyes closed began her introspection.

In the first place, of course, there was Tiziana herself. By the age of forty her life had taken an unexpected turn for Lena, discovering exquisite pleasure in a relationship she had long before dismissed and which her Catholic mother would entirely disapprove. It was the Venetian who led her along that journey and had done it masterfully helping her to overcome the initial repairs, fruits of her upbringing. There was no doubt that Tiziana was hopelessly in love with her and the most unthinkable, that that love was in a certain way reciprocal. Lena considered whether she had changed her sexual preference and immediately concluded that she had not.
